What is
more funny than a laughing baby? Admit it, you laughed your ass off after
watching this video. Babies have
such an infectious laugh and above all they are cute and cuddly. Enough reasons
for Evian to decide to use babies in their viral marketing campaign..
Remember
that video with roller-skating babies that spread across the internet a while
ago? When you don’t remember you can watch it here:
Of course
babies are incapable of roller skating, but the high cuteness factor and realistic
animation makes it fun to watch. Apparently more people thought so, because
this video has over 53 million hits!
How come so
many people came across this video? The answer: viral marketing. Viral
marketing is a marketing technique that tries to increase brand popularity via
existing social networks. It can be compared to word-of-mouth marketing (interested in word-of-mouth marketing? Visit the word of mouth blog.). Only the main difference is that viral marketing spreads itself across the internet. In this way it is possible to reach loads of people in a
cheap and quick way. This can be risky,
because it might also damage your image, but in case of Evian it worked out
pretty well (and not only for Evian, remember our last blog about the Royal
Flash Mob by T-mobile?). Everyone who
saw the video associates Evian with the roller babies and probably with their
slogan: ‘live young,’ that they tried to promote.
Evian even
based their current campaign ‘baby inside’ on the roller babies video. In this
campaign they observe the effect of evian: it makes you feel younger. Want to
know how they did this? Watch it here.
